Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been established in digital tools that translate texts into other languages or generate subtitles. However, the technology for sign language translations for deaf people and audio descriptions for blind people is still a long way from being fully developed. DSI Professor and computational linguist Sarah Ebling explains the challenges that need to be overcome before AI can be reliably used for these purposes.
